Turtle Point Outpost is located in the Northwoods of Wisconsin in Iron County. It is located 7 miles from the center of Mercer, WI which is home to the 16 foot tall Claire de Loon. Though it is just 7 miles from the center of town, it is very secluded, rustic and private. You will certainly be able to get away from it all on a visit to Turtle Point Outpost.

BIKING
Bring your mountain bike to Turtle Point Outpost. Murray Landing Road, which leads to Turtle Point Outpost winds through the woods and is a mix of paved road and gravel with easy terrain. A bike adventure from Turtle Point Outpost to the highway and back on Murray Landing Road would be an 8 mile round trip.
If that 8 mile trip isn't enough, you're in luck as there are many more trails and places to explore on your bike. After you bike out to the highway on Murray Landing Road, you can connect to the Mercer Bike trail on Old Highway 51. This trail will take you north into the heart of Mercer or will take you south and connect up with the miles of bike trails in Manitowish Waters and Vilas County, including the North Lakeland Discovery Center Bike trails.
Mercer also holds an annual festival in June that centers around biking. Lupine Junefest is a celebration of the soft shades of the lupines and the arrival of the summer season in Mercer, Wisconsin. This celebration is centered around biking and enjoying the blooming lupines, breathtaking forest and sparkling lakes & rivers and includes 10, 15, 28 and 50 mile bike tours specifically mapped out for you to. It's a great way to explore the Mercer area.

FISHING
If you love to fish, you've come to the right place. You can find great fishing in all the seasons around Turtle Point Outpost.
Grant Lake itself is pretty good for casual and relaxed panfishing from a kayak, canoe, small boat, pontoon or even from shore. Every once in a while, due to our direct connection to the Turtle Flambeau Flowage, you'll hook into a Walleye, Northern Pike, Musky or Bass. Overall, it's great for casual fishing and you can even pull a nice fish fry dinner out of the lake if the fish are really biting.
But if you really want to fish, Iron and Vilas Counties are packed with amazing opportunities. Iron County is home to nearly 19000 acres of fishing paradise on the Turtle Flambeau Flowage and Trude Lake. Getting on the flowage couldn't be easier as Murray Landing is just 2 miles down the road from Turtle Point Outpost. If walleye are what you seek, the Turtle Flambeau Flowage is the place to go find them as it is known for it's abundant walleye popution.
In addition, there are literally thousands of lakes, rivers and flowages in the area that boast great pan, bass, northern, musky and walleye fishing. You can hardly dip your line in a lake without finding a fish to catch. In addition, there are trout streams nearby where you can catch, brook, brown and rainbow trout.

HIKING
At Turtle Point Outpost, we've got 4.5 acres and 700+ feet of lakeshore for you to explore right where you're at. Also, there's plenty of state owned land just a short walk down the road where you can make your own trail and explore deep into the Northern Wisconsin forest. But if trail hiking is more your thing, there's plenty of trails nearby for you to enjoy.
North Lakeland Discovery Center is just down the road in Manitowish Waters. They've got an abundance of trails (12 miles to be exact) for you to explore. They even have a 22 station breeding bird trail where you can see the many birds that call Northern Wisconsin home.
If you're looking for something a bit more wild, check out the Catherine Wolter Wilderness Area that covers over 2100 acres of forest with 15 wild lakes and over 36,000 feet of undeveloped shoreline. It's about a 45 minute drive from Turtle Point Outpost. When you arrive you will find that there are multiple hiking loops in this area you can enjoy. Think about packing a lite lunch to enjoy while sitting lakeside of one of the un-touched Northern Wisconsin lakes in this area.

PADDLING
Turtle Point Outpost's Grant Lake is a great place for an easy, relaxing paddle. At about 115 acres, you can spend a morning taking your time exploring every corner of the lake. From the stream that flows out of Grant Lake into the Famous Turtle Flambeau Flowage to the wild northern shores of Grant Lake which is home to an osprey nesting tower, you'll enjoy this peaceful little journey.
The nearby Manitowish River and Turtle Flambeau Flowage offer thousands of acres of Northwoods Wisconsin paddling paradise. A great day trip during your Northwoods Wisconsin Vacation at Turtle Point Outpost would be to explore the Western Manitowish River which leads into the Turtle Flambeau Flowage. You'll put in to the Manitowish River 0.1 mile south of Highway 51 on highway 47 / 182 in the town of Manitowish and meander the 15 mile winding river to the Turtle Flambeau Flowage, where you'll take out at Murray Landing, just 2 miles down the road from Turtle Point Outpost.
Another great combination paddling / hiking trip, would be to put in at Murray Landing and paddle over to the Turtle Flambeau Patterned Bog Natural Area which is only accessible by water. This area is unique in Wisconsin as it was created by the damming that also created the Turtle Flambeau Flowage and supports an extensive and diverse landscape.
